Splint
A negative of a plywood Eames furniture company splint made for the Navy in 1942. The splint, now seen as a design novelty to mid-century collectors, is a representative object of an overarching dark history linking WW2 and mid-century design. Designed to replace uncomfortable and heavy metal splints, Eames produced the laminated plywood splint in quantities of 150,000 under their military contract.
