ABOUT
Colin Knight’s (b. 1998) work exists as a microcosm of correlations, references, and mythology of the past. The work investigates historical conflict’s ties to design, a familial survival of war, and a continuation of lineage in post-war art.
Knight’s oeuvre encompasses furniture, objects of conflict, crash sites, and architectural ruins. The psychical elements of his practice—from wood, leather, and soap to textiles, plaster, and upholstery—are as symbolically resonant as they are vast-ranging. By integrating, dissecting, and reimagining imagery and techniques, he brings forward the importance of the traumatic and the triumphant, myth and memory.
After graduating from VCU School of the Arts and receiving the 2020 Windgate-Lamar Fellowship from the Center of Craft, he resides in Richmond, VA, working as a furniture designer for McKinnon & Harris and continuing his studio practice.
